THE BLESSING FOR A MARRIAGE
by James Dillet Freeman
May your marriage bring you all the exquisite
excitement marriage should bring,
and may life grant you also patience,
tolerance, and understanding.
May you always need one another -
not so much to fill your emptiness
as to help you to know your fullness.
A mountain needs a valley to be complete;
the valley does not make
the mountain less, but more;
and the valley is more a valley because
it has a mountain towering over it.
May you need one another, but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one another.
May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another.
May you succeed in all important ways with one another,
and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say, "I love you!"
and take no notice of small faults.
If you have quarrels that push you apart,
may both of you hope to have
good sense enough to take the first step back.
May you enter into the mystery which is
the awareness of one another's
presence - no more physical than spiritual,
warm and near when you are
side by side, and warm and near when
you are in separate rooms
or even distant cities.
May you have happiness,
and may you find it making one another happy.
May you have love, and may you find it loving one another.
EXTRACT - From A Year with C.S. Lewis:
"If the old fairy-tale ending "They lived happily ever after" is taken to mean "They felt for the next fifty years exactly as they felt the day before they were married," then it says what probably never was nor ever would be true, and would be highly undesirable if it were.
Who could bear to live in that excitement for even five years?
What would become of your work, your appetite, your sleep, your friendships?
But, of course, ceasing to be "in love" need not mean ceasing to love.
Love in this second sense -- love as distinct from "being in love" -- is not merely a feeling.
It is a deep unity, maintained by the will and deliberately strengthened by habit; reinforced by the grace which both partners ask, and receive, from God.
They can have this love for each other even at those moments when they do not like each other; as you love yourself even when you do not like yourself.
They can retain this love even when each would easily, if they allowed themselves, be "in love" with someone else.
"Being in love" first moved them to promise fidelity: this quieter love enables them to keep the promise.
It is on this love that the engine of marriage is run: being in love was the explosion that started it."
AS FAR AS WE CAN TELL – A WEDDING BLESSING
As far as we can tell, dreams are nothing more than love trying to take wing and soar.
Imagine for just a moment, the thrilling, distracting, wonderful, odd, unusual sensation of new love. You immediately begin dreaming of life together… of where you will go… of what life will mean for the two of you.
Live in that moment every day.
Fall in love with new ideas, new opportunities, and new places all the time.
Trust it, live it, don’t say no to love or crush a dream that wants to live.
It isn’t that hard to give yourself over to it.
You just have to say yes to life and love; to be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love, because true love will never lead you astray.
Will you live an unusual life together?
Will you live the life you love?
We all hope so.
Anyone with a heart filled by dreams is already halfway there.
So breathe deep. Jump in. Swim, or just float on the rivers of life, of laughter and love.
MARRY YOUR BEST FRIEND
Marry your best friend.
I do not say that lightly. Really, truly, find the strongest, happiest friendship in the person you fall in love with.
Someone who speaks highly of you
Someone you can laugh with. The kind of laughs that make your belly ache, and your nose snort. The embarrassing, earnest, healing kind of laughs.
Wit is important. Life is too short not to love with someone who lets you be a fool with them.
Make sure they are somebody who lets you cry too. Despair will come. Find someone that you want to be there with you through those times.
Most importantly, marry the one that makes passion, love, and madness combine and course through you.
A love that will never dilute – even when the waters get deep and dark.
WHEN TWO PEOPLE ARE IN LOVE
When two people are in love with each other, you can see it in their eyes. The way that they look at each other, the way they stare at each other – it’s all there.
Their eyes are full of admiration, of attraction, of undying feelings for each other.
Their eyes twinkle, their eyes are smiling.
Even if they didn’t say a word about it, there’s this invisible thread connecting them.
MARRIAGE IS ABOUT.. Nicholas Sparks
Marriage is about becoming a team
You’re going to spend the rest of your life learning about each other, and every now & then, things blow up. But the beauty of marriage is that if you picked the right person and you both love each other, you’ll always figure out a way to get through it.
WHAT IS A FAMILY
A family is..
The sweetest feelings, the warmest hugs
Trust and togetherness, and unconditional love
The stories of our lives written on the same page. The nicest memories anyone has ever made.
Treasured photos, thankful tears, hearts overflowing with all the years.
Being there for one another, supporting and caring, understanding, helping, sharing
Walking life’s path together, and making the journey more beautiful because….
We are a family
And a family is love
LOVE IS AN ATTITUDE by Walter Rinder
Every day you live,
Learn how to love,
take time with each other;
Restore each other’s soul,
With loving words
With as much understanding
As you give it.
Find that which is within yourself
Then you can share it with each other.
Do not fear this love,
And do not fear this marriage,
But keep open hearts and sincere minds.
Be sincerely interested in each other’s happiness,
Be too, constant and consistent in your love,
And in your actions from this, as you know,
comes security and strength.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us
So even though you retain your individuality,
today in a real sense you also become one,
In a true unity.
That this may be deep and rewarding,
Today, the day of your marriage,
Try to commit yourselves,
Fully and freely and trustingly,
To each other, without reservations.
SCIENTIFIC ROMANCE by Tim Pratt
If I became lost in the multiverse, exploring infinite parallel dimensions, my only criterion for settling down somewhere would be whether or not I could find you: and once I did, I’d stay there even if it was a world ruled by giant spider-priests, or one where killer robots won the Civil War, or even a world where sandwiches were never invented, because you’d make it the best of all possible worlds anyway, and plus we could get rich off inventing sandwiches.
If the Singularity comes and we upload our minds into a vast computer simulation of near-infinite complexity and perfect resolution, and become capable of experiencing any fantasy, exploring worlds bound only by our enhanced imaginations, I’d still spend at least 1,021 processing cycles a month just sitting on a virtual couch with you, watching virtual TV, eating virtual fajitas, holding virtual hands, and wishing for the real thing.
FRIENDSHIP – by Judy Bielicki
It is often said that it is love that makes the world go round.
However, without doubt, it is friendship which keeps our spinning existence on an even keel.
True friendship provides so many of the essentials for a happy life-it is the foundation on which to build an enduring relationship, it is the mortar which bonds us together in harmony, and it is the calm, warm protection we sometimes need when the world outside seems cold and chaotic.
True friendship holds a mirror to our foibles and failings, without destroying our sense of worthiness.
True friendship nurtures our hopes, supports us in our disappointments, and encourages us to grow to our best potential.
(Name) and (Name) came together as friends.
Today, they pledge to each other not only their love, but also the strength, warmth and, most importantly, the fun of true friendship.
MY BEST FRIEND
Today... I look into the eyes of my best friend The one with whom I can share anything with My deepest hopes and heart-filled dreams Inner fears and sheltered insecurities My most warming joys and overwhelming triumphs All future journeys that I have left to encounter This and more I know I can share with you
Today... I take pride in my best friend With admiration I look upon you and smile For all that you are and all that you do that makes me so proud Every part of you that I have come to adore And for all those parts I have not yet learned I will live each day from now on cherishing you with honor
Today... I share my soul to my best friend My most prized possession which no other has been given I give it with great confidence and trust Because with you I am at peace and I know with you it is safe You give to me a warmth that I keep with me always And what else can I give to someone who has given me so much For you have opened my eyes to see a love, which before you I was blind to
Today... I am marrying my best friend For I know now God put you here to be my partner Knowing even before I, that you were the one I would live to love Guiding me to this aisle, He knew your hand would be waiting here for me to hold Graciously leading me here to you and allowing us to share this moment together So I could begin the rest of my journeys through life, happily ever after with you ... My Best Friend"
THE KEY TO LOVE
The key to love is understanding…
The ability to comprehend not only the spoken word
But those unspoken gestures,
The little things that say so much by themselves.
The key to love is forgiveness…
To accept each others faults and pardon mistakes
Without forgetting, but with remembering
What you learn from them.
The key to love is sharing…
Facing your good fortune as well as the bad, together.
Both conquering problems, forever searching for ways
To intensify your happiness
The key to love is giving…
Without thought of return,
But with the hope of just a simple smile
And by giving in but never giving up.
The key to love is respect…
Realising that you are two separate people, with different ideas.
That you don’t belong to each other,
You belong with each other, and share a mutual bond.
The key to love is inside us all…
It takes time and patience to unlock all the ingredients.
It is the continental learning process that demands a lot of work…
But the rewards are more than worth the effort…
And that is the key love.
BETTER TOGETHER by Jack Johnson
There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoe box of photographs
With sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer, at least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together
WHEN I LOVE by Warsan Shire
When I love, I love: wholly, thoroughly, completely, drowning in everything.
Every glance can be a conversation,
eyes just playing and saying what needs to be said.
Silence is loud, and the air becomes heavy. I want you. I want all of you.
“I LIKE YOU” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg
I like you and I know why
I like you because you are a good person to like
I like you because when I tell you something special,
you know it’s special
And you remember it a long, long time
You say, “Remember when you told me something special?”
And both of us remember
When I think something is important
You think it’s important too
We have good ideas
When I say something funny, you laugh
I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too
You know how to be silly
That’s why I like you
If I am getting ready to pop a paper bag,
then you are getting ready to jump
I like you because when I am feeling sad
You don’t always cheer me up right away
Sometimes it is better to be sad
You want to think about things
It takes time
I like you because if I am mad at you
Then you are mad at me too
It’s awful when the other person isn’t
I can’t remember when I didn’t like you
It must have been lonesome then
Even if it was the 999th of July
Even if it was August
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November
I would go on choosing you
And you would go on choosing me
Over and over again
And that’s how it would happen every time
If you have found a smile that is the sweetest one you’ve known.
If you have heard, within a voice, the echoes of your own.
If you have felt a touch that stirs the longing of your heart,
and still can feel that closeness in the moment you’re apart.
If you are filled with wonder at the way two lives can blend,
to weave a perfect pattern that is seamless end to end.
If you believe some things in life are simply meant to be,
then you have found your soulmate, your hearts own destiny.
If you can always be as close and happy as today,
yet be secure enough to grow and change along the way.
If you can keep for you alone your love as man and wife,
yet find the time to share your joy with others in your life.
If you can be as one and walk through marriage hand in hand,
yet still support the goals and dreams that each of you have planned.
If you can dare to always go your separate ways together,
than all the wonders of today will stay with you forever.
ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Today is a day you will always remember,
The greatest in anyone’s life;
You’ll start off the day just two people in love
And end it as husband and wife.
It’s a brand new beginning, the start of a journey,
With moments to cherish and treasure;
And although there’ll be times when you both disagree
These will surely be outweighed by pleasure.
You’ll have heard many words of advice in the past,
When the secrets of marriage were spoken;
But you know that the answers lie hidden inside
Where the bond of true love lies unbroken.
So live happy forever as lovers and friends
It’s the dawn of a new life for you;
As you stand there together with love in your eyes
From the moment you whisper “I do”.
And with luck all your hopes and your dreams can be real
May success find its way to your hearts;
Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys
But today is the day it all starts
MARRIAGE FULFILLS THE DREAMS AND LOVE TWO PEOPLE SHARE- by Glenda Wilm
Everyone searches for one special person
They can share their lives with.
The other half who makes them whole,
Like two notes blending together to make a beautiful song,
Or the colours that complement
Each other to form a rainbow.
It is everyone’s wish to have a lifetime of sunny days,
A rainbow after every storm;
A lifetime of loving and living and growing and giving,
Of sharing and caring; a lifetime of days together,
Learning from the bad times and cherishing the good times.
Marriage is everything your heart desires
And the strength, courage and determination to work for it.
In marriage you take care of each other’s heart
And hold on to what you share.
You hold it gently so it doesn’t smother
And firmly so it doesn’t slip away.
Hold it so that it can grow
And you can grow together
And live and laugh and love together always.
HAPPY TO BE US
Today, as we both say I DO
I give of me what I ask of you
I promise to always do my bit
To secure our loving partnership
As days are spent and years pass by
I promise I will always try
I’ll never disregard your thoughts
I’ll always give you my full support
I hope we’ll always feel connected
Heard & valued, loved & respected
May we remain an equal pair
May we both always genuinely care
So as we go forward, united as one
May we be content, optimistic and strong
May we know compromise, commitment and trust
And may we be forever happy to be us.
Will you love me when I’m ancient?
Will you feel the same as today?
Will I still make you have butterflies and feel proud in every way?
Will you still chat to me daily,
And try to make me laugh?
Will you still give me a cuddle,
And sneak a peek at me in the bath?
Will you still wake up each morning,
And turn to me with a grin?
Will you still tell me I’m beautiful,
And mean, outside and in?
Will you always want to hold me,
And want me to feel blissfully safe?
Will you still know what I am thinking,
Just by reading the look on my face?
And if you still want to go ahead with this
Then here’s to our life together
So answer yes to all these questions
Then there’s no doubt this will last forever
A MARRIAGE MADE FOR TWO
A successful marriage can learn a lot from bicycle riding.
You should promise each other that you will not be fair weather riders, but venture out together in the wind and the rain.
Only by braving the storms as a team will you reap the rewards when the sunshine arrives.
Look after each other. A well oiled bike will run smoothly and change gear easily.
Marriage is like a tandem…keep pedalling or the one at the front shouts at you!
You should promise each other to not only enjoy new adventures and explorations, but appreciate the same old routes you know and love.
Marriage is a promise to each other to endure the climbs so that you may chase the swoops and swerves of perfect single track.
The journey may be long and may have hills ahead, but if you climb together with love and passion, you will be able to achieve everything you both desire!
Wishing you all the best from the start line of the greatest endurance event of your lives. Good luck and may each lap be a great adventure.
MARRIAGE IS NOT BEAUTIFUL
Marriage is ugly, you see the absolute worst in someone.
You see them when they’re mad, sad, being stubborn, when they’re so unloveable they make you scream.
But you also get to see them when they are laughing so hard that tears run down their face, and they can’t help but let out those weird gargling noises.
You see them at 3am when the world is asleep except you two, and you’re eating in the middle of the kitchen floor.
You get to see the side of them that no one else does, and its not always pretty.
It’s snorting when laughing, it’s the tears when it feels like it’s all crashing down, it’s the farting, it’s the beadhead and bad breath, it’s the random dances, it’s the anger and the joy.
Marriage isn’t a beautiful thing, but it is amazing.
It’s knowing that someone loves you so much, and won’t leave you even though you said something nasty.
It’s having someone to have your back, no matter what. It’s fights over stupid things, like someone not doing the dishes or picking up after themselves.
And it’s those nights you fall asleep in each others’ arms, feeling like there will never be enough time with them.
It’s cleaning up their dirty washing, it’s rubbing their back when they’re sick. It’s the dirtiest, hardest, most rewarding job there is.
Because at the end of the day, you get to crawl into bed with your best friend – the weirdest, most annoying, loving, goofy, perfect person that you know.
Marriage is not beautiful, but it’s one heaven of a journey.
Maybe, we are supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so that, when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.
Maybe, it is true that we don’t know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don’t know what we have been missing until it arrives.
Maybe, the happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
Maybe, the best kind of love is the kind you can sit on a sofa together and never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve ever had.
Maybe, you shouldn’t go for looks; they can deceive. Don’t go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.
Maybe, you should hope for enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy.
Maybe, love is not about finding the perfect person, it’s about learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.
HERE’S TO RIGHT NOW
You’re surrounded by your loved ones
And all are wishing you well
As you create a brand new chapter
In the story that’s yours to tell
We talk about the memories
You have yet to make together
And the moment’s you’ve already shared
To be carried with you forever
But take the time to live today
As your marriage begins
Look around and soak it up
The moment that we are in
For this is where the magic starts
When you both say your vows
You pledge to spend your lives as one
Because of the love you feel now
So yes, here’s to a future
That is bright, warm & clear
But more than that, here’s to right now
And what it means to be here.
LOVE ISN’T ALWAYS PERFECT
Love isn’t always perfect
It isn’t a fairy-tale of a storybook
And it doesn’t always come easy
Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges,
Fighting to be together, holding on & never letting go
It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define
And impossible to live without
Love is work, but most of all
Love is realizing that every hour, every minute
And every single second was worth it
Because you did it together.
Only once in a lifetime you meet that special someone who can melt your heart
Make you feel butterflies in your stomach and make you feel week at the knees
It’s very rare to cross your path with that special someone who comes along and turns your life upside down with their love and affection
It is magical to fine someone who comes along and warms your soul by lighting an eternal fire
So when you find this special someone who loves you with every bit of their heart and soul,
Embrace them, cherish them, treasure them and give them all the love you have in your heart
OUR WEDDING PRAYER
Today we begin the rest of our life
Together forever as husband and wife.
Our dreams came true, with love and more
Adventures to have and the world to explore.
We’ll share our joys; we’ll share or sorrows;
We can already see many bright tomorrows.
We’ll share our friends and family, too
And you are part of that special crew.
Thank you for celebrating our wedding day.
As we share our vows, we just want to say,
These wedding memories will become a treasure,
And seeing you here is part of the pleasure.
EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE by Neil Gaiman
This is everything I have to tell you about love: nothing.
This is everything I've learned about marriage: nothing.
Only that the world out there is complicated, and there are beasts in the night, and delight and pain, and the only thing that makes it okay, sometimes, is to reach out a hand in the darkness and find another hand to squeeze, and not to be alone. It's not the kisses, or never just the kisses: it's what they mean.
Somebody's got your back. Somebody knows your worst self and somehow doesn't want to rescue you or send for the army to rescue them. It's not two broken halves becoming one. It's the light from a distant lighthouse bringing you both safely home because home is wherever you are both together.
So this is everything I have to tell you about love and marriage: nothing, like a book without pages or a forest without trees. Because there are things you cannot know before you experience them. Because no study can prepare you for the joys or the trials. Because nobody else's love, nobody else's marriage, is like yours, and it's a road you can only learn by walking it, a dance you cannot be taught, a song that did not exist before you began, together, to sing.
And because in the darkness you will reach out a hand, not knowing for certain if someone else is even there.
And your hands will meet, and then neither of you will ever need to be alone again.
And that's all I know about love.
Richard Bach on Soulmates
A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys,
and keys to fit our locks.
When we feel safe enough to open the locks,
our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be.
Each unveils the best part of the other.
No matter what else goes wrong around us,
with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise.
Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings,
our sense of direction.
When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up,
chances are we’ve found the right person.
Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life
THE PERFECT PERSON
Nobody is perfect.
But if you can make each other laugh at least once,
cause each other to think twice
and can admit to being human and making mistakes,
then hold onto each other and give the most you can.
You aren't going to quote poetry to each other,
nor think about each other every moment,
but you will give a part of yourselves that you know can be broken.
So don't hurt each other,
or try to change the other person
and don't expect more than you both can give.
Smile when you make each other happy,
yell when you make each other mad,
and miss the other when they are not there.
Love hard when there is love to be had.
Because perfect people don't exist, but there is always one person that is perfect for you.
I give you this ring as a promise to you,
a promise that I’ll be here and I’ll always be true
I promise that I’ll hold you when your day isn’t going right,
and I’ll comfort you through the long, cold night.
I promise that I’ll make you smile when you feel like dying.
I promise that I’ll be here when you feel like crying.
I promise that I will guide you when the future isn’t clear
I promise I will be there to wipe away your every tear
I promise that no matter what we will make it through
I give you this ring as a promise – a promise that I will always love you.
LESSONS OF THE HEART
Love is not the rock on the finger of the girl you plan to marry
It is the size of the boulder you move to repair the marriage
Love is not the fairy tale that ends with happy ever after
It is the hand that wipes away the tears
Love is not in the spotlight
It is waiting in the shadows
Love is not winning the argument
It is listening with an open heart
Love is not flowers or candy
It is truth and honesty
Love is not the ease of the quest
It is the commitment to the relationship
Love is not expensive restaurants
It is the sacrifice made to feed a child
Love is not the dream come true
It is chasing nightmares away
Love is not the success of money
It is the failure to find fault
Love is not sweet nothings whispered in the ear
It is accepting the thoughts of others
Love is not the perfect picture
It is the flaw that makes us who we are.
Love is not the latest ballad on the radio
It is the song of a lifetime.
LOVE IS – by Susan Polis Schutz
Love is being happy for the other person when they are happy
being sad for the other person when they are sad
being together in good times
and being together in bad times
Love is the source of strength
Love is being honest with yourself at all times
being honest with the other person at all times
telling, listening, respecting the truth and never pretending
Love is the source of reality
Love is an understanding that is so complete that you feel as if you are a part of the other person
accepting the other person just the way they are
and not trying to change them to be something else
Love is the source of unity
Love is the freedom to pursue your own desires while sharing your experience with the other person
the growth of one individual along side of and together with the growth of another individual
Love is the source of success
Love is the excitement of planning things together
the excitement of doing things together
Love is the source of the future
Love is the fury of the storm
the calm of the rainbow
Love is the source of passion
Love is giving and taking in a daily situation
being patient with each other's needs and desires
Love is the source of sharing
Love is knowing that the other person will always be with you regardless of what happens
missing the other person when they are away
but remaining near in heart at all times
Love is the source of security
Love is the source of life
LITTLE TRIP TO HEAVEN By Tom Waits
I don't have to take no trip to outer space
All I have to do is look at your face,
And before I know it, I'm in orbit around you
Thanking my lucky stars that I've found you,
When I see your constellation, honey, you're my inspiration, and it's you.
You're my North star when I'm lost and feeling blue,
The sun is breaking through the clouds, don't you know it's true?
Honey, all the other stars seem dim around you
Thanking my lucky stars that I've found you,
When I see your smiling face,
I know nothing ever going to take your place, and it's you.
A GOOD WOMAN
One you should treasure but not as a possession,
Who needs to be loved, not treated with aggression.
Her value is more than all the worlds treasures,
Not just the sum of material measures.
She should always be built up and not torn down,
By all the words you speak when she is around.
She needs to be hugged and not pushed away,
Especially when you are both having a really bad day.
Words spoken to her in haste and anger
Can place her fragile heart in danger.
She should be admired for her boundless love,
And looked upon as a true gift from above.
Not used as a target for all your frustration,
But held close and kissed with loving admiration.
You should always appreciate the commitment she gives,
Don’t take her for granted as long as you live.
Kiss her and love her all that you possibly can,
And don’t be embarrassed to be seen holding her hand.
Treasure each day as if it were the last,
And at the end of your life you wont regret your past.
A QUESTION ON LOVE
We all have the same amount of time.
We all have now.
This marriage is a conscious choice to see the beauty in this moment.
It is a decision to appreciate each moment to follow as unique and irreplaceable.
It is a commitment to one another and a celebration of ongoing life in a world where not a single one of us knows what the future will hold.
Two of the ancient questions that were posed when it came to the quality of a soul were, "Did you participate in the joy of life?"
and "Did you bring joy to others?"
Today that answer is a resounding YES.
THE MIRACLE OF MARRIAGE by Helen Steiner Rice
Marriage is a union of two people in love
And love is sheer magic
For it is woven of delicate dreams, enchantingly real, that people in love are privileged to feel.
But the ‘exquisite ecstasy’ that captures the heart of two people in love is just a small part of the beauty and wonder and miracle of the growth, fulfilment and evolvement of love.
For only long years of living together, sharing and caring in all kinds of weather
Both pleasure and pain, the glad and the bad
Teardrops and laughter, the good and the bad
Can add new dimension and lift love above the rapturous ecstasies of ‘falling in love’.
For ecstasy passes, but it is replaced by something much greater that cannon be defaced,
For what was ‘in part’ has now ‘become whole’ –
For on the ‘wings of the flesh’, love entered the soul.
The mountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean
The winds of heaven mix forever
With a sweet emotion
Nothing in the world is single
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle
Why not with thine?
See the mountains kiss high heaven
And the waves clasp one another
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it distained its brother
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea
What is all this worth
If thou kiss not me?
LOVE IS GIVING
Love is giving, not taking, mending, not breaking,
Trusting, believing, never deceiving, patiently bearing and faithfully sharing each joy, every sorrow, today and tomorrow.
Love is kind, understanding, but never demands.
Love is constant, prevailing, its strength never failing.
A promise once spoken, love is time is forever.
BANDS OF GOLD
A precious band of gold was placed
Some fifty years ago
Upon two hearts of tender years
who vowed their love would grow.
The gold was not within the ring.
Nor in their faces fair.
It wasn’t in their youth or charm.
But in the love they shared.
The gold was there for them to spend
when silver coins were rare.
It didn’t buy them more to have
but taught them how to share.
They spent it on a loving look,
on patience, kindness, trust,
they spent it on the kinds of things
that cannot wilt or rust.
And the wonder of this band of gold,
if you can comprehend,
each time they used their gift of love,
there was that much more to spend.
It brought them trust, it brought them hope,
a tender hand to hold
it brought a blessed and lovely thing
A marriage, carved in gold.
A MARRIAGE IS A PROMISE
A marriage is a promise
That two hearts gladly make
A promise to be tender
To help to give and take
A marriage is a promise
To be kind and understanding
To be thoughtful and considerate
Fair and undemanding
A marriage is a promise
To share one life together
A love filled promise is meant to be
Kept lovingly forever.
EXCERPT FROM MY UNCLE OSWALD by Roald Dahl
I began to realise how important it was to be an enthusiast in life.
He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead.
Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it
and above all become passionate about it.
Lukewarm is no good.
Hot is no good either.
White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.
MOST IMPORTANTLY LOVE by Rupi Kaur
Most importantly, love like it's the only thing you know how
At the end of the day all this means nothing
This page where you're sitting your degree,
your job, the money
nothing even matters
Except love and human connection
who you loved
and how deeply you loved them
How you touched the people around you
and how much you gave them
AN EXCERPT FROM WHEN LOVE ARRIVES by Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye
Love is not who you were expecting
Love is not who you can predict
Maybe love is in New York City, already asleep
You are in California, Australia, wide awake
Maybe love is always in the wrong time zone
Maybe love is not ready for you
Maybe you are not ready for love
Maybe love just isn’t the marrying type
Maybe the next time you see love is twenty years after the divorce
Love is older now, but just as beautiful as you remember
Maybe love is only there for a month
Maybe love is there for every firework, every birthday party, every hospital visit
Maybe love stays
Maybe love can’t
Maybe love shouldn’t...
Love arrives exactly when love is supposed to
And love leaves exactly when love must
When love arrives, say,
“Welcome, make yourself comfortable”
If love leaves, ask her to leave the door open behind her.
Turn off the music, listen to the quiet, whisper,
“Thank you for stopping by."
A VOW by Wendy Cope
I cannot promise never to be angry;
I cannot promise always to be kind.
You know what you are taking on, my darling –
It’s only at the start that love is blind.
And yet I’m still the one you want to be with
And you’re the one for me – of that I’m sure.
You are my closest friend, my favourite person,
The lover and the home I’ve waited for.
I cannot promise that I will deserve you
From this day on. I hope to pass that test.
I love you and I want to make you happy.
I promise I will do my very best.
